What Does Pilates Certification Mean?
A certificate from a reputable Pilates training facility is essential to work in a Pilates studio, fitness club, therapeutic clinic, or as a personal trainer using this technique. There are many training institutions that offer certification course in Pilates. Do your due diligence and find a well established and respected center. The certification will involve hundreds of hours of lectures, training, and apprentice work before a student is qualified to be given the rigorous written and practical examination. Each student must already be be a certified fitness professional or licensed rehabilitation practitioner who has already studied anatomy to be accepted by most programs. After certification, ongoing continuing education classes are required in order to maintain this status.

Several of the well know certification centers include the Physical Mind Institute, The Pilates Studio, Polestar Education, and Stott Pilates. They offer many of the courses through their extensive network of affiliated studios and fitness clubs.

The Pilates Studio teaches Authentic Pilates, which conservatively adheres to the original forms, techniques, and sequences that were developed by Joseph Pilates. The Pilates Studio offers certification at eleven worldwide centers. This program is a member of the Pilates Guild, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to preserving Joseph Pilates’ work. The curriculum at this institute begins with a seminar series that outlines the beginner, intermediate and advanced exercises that are done using a mat and other equipment. This is followed by a six hundred hour apprenticeship phase, where the student works with a certified Pilates Guild instructor to practice these exercises and perform them on another person. Exams follow each of these two phases, which must be completed within one year of enrolment. The usual program cost is around $4,000.

This is MY #1 Muscle-building Program: So I say, either go ahead and pay your $70 every month for the gym, OR pay a weekly fee to Weight Watchers while you watch the pounds come off in halves for months - OR bite the bullet and pay $67 - a fee you’ll never have to pay again - with money back guarentee!

Since Pilates exercises were introduced in America in 1910 the popularity has grown, and they have been practiced by millions of people. There is a strong demand for qualified professionals who are proficient with these techniques. But becoming certified is just the beginning of this process. The first Pilates Machine involved springs attached to hospital beds. Pilates techniques and machines have improved immensely over the years and are now much more sophisticated. Many current instructors were once Pilates’ personal students, who now continue his teachings. They and all Pilates instructors are required to keep their certification and techniques current with ongoing education to provide their students and clients with the ever improving and correct methods. A very high standard was set by Joe Pilates and must be maintained by his teachers.
