Symptoms of an Anxiety Attack

Every person has a defense mechanism and anxiety is a part of that. When people are exposed to stressful and dangerous conditions, being anxious about it is the body’s way of telling us that we are stressed or endangered. Even long before, our ancestors already rely on anxiety to decide on certain matters such as the hunt or the presence of a predator.

Now, in this modern era, people do not get exposed to highly dangerous circumstances unlike before. It would be unusual to find a lion stalking you in front of your house. In fact, the notion is absurd. With the police and military around, the world is relatively peaceful yes there are still abundant dangers out there, certainly of different form, but most of the population is seldom exposed to it.

However, since the anxiety mechanism is built in every person’s body, it gets to be a problem for some. This problem reaches to the point known as an anxiety attack. However, this disorder id not understood by all. Getting hit by a car or having one’s arm cut off, anyone will understand that person’s predicament and would have some inkling as to the pain he is feeling. However, of one is having an anxiety attack, not everyone would understand, would even think the whole thing silly and irrational.

An anxiety attack can be triggered by many things. A student who has problems in school such as failing grades or incomplete projects could have an anxiety attack. Couples who are about to break up their relationship, or an impending divorce in the family could also trigger this disorder. Even simple things such as oncoming meetings, interviews, and events could cause an anxiety attack. So basically, a person could suffer panic and anxiety if they are having difficulty with doing something easily done because of a disturbance in their daily lives. Having such attacks, even only once in a while could make a person’s life very hard.

In the past, an anxiety attack is so misunderstood that it could lead to hurting oneself and even suicide. The community is also very intolerant about it. They usually ship a person suffering from anxiety attacks to the mental hospital or send that person straight to jail.

Fortunately, nowadays, there is a level of understanding and tolerance for an anxiety attack. Still it is important for a person to realize and accept that he or she is having anxiety disorders. Then that person should avail of treatments. Undergoing counseling is a great step to treat and stop anxiety attacks. Talking and sharing your burdens to others is also a great way of unloading all those stress. There are now many self help groups available, composed of people who may have the same problems as you.

If the case is severe, then it is time to take medications. Unlike before where people who take medications are shunned, now one can take medications and still be socially accepted. The medication could be temporary or could be permanent. No matter how it goes, the important thing is for the anxiety attacks to stop.
